Popular streaming service YouTube – in partnership with MTV Base Africa – has released its schedule of musical events that includes World renowned actor and activist Idris Elba for the celebration of Africa month.

The Africa Month celebration schedule includes performances by popular artists from South Africa, Nigeria, and Kenya.

Manager Director at YouTube EMEA Emerging Markets Alex Okosi said YouTube had been a helping hand to artist development.

“It has been a driver in exporting African sound to music lovers, fans, and listeners worldwide,” said Okosi.

“YouTube has also enabled collaborations across the continent and around the world.”

Owing to this global reach and impact, YouTube saw fit that it plays its role in the celebration of this important month for the continent as a whole, said Okosi.

South African superstar Sho Majozi, Nigerian Afro beats star Fireboy DML and Kenyan boy band Sauti Sol have started delivering live performances of their most popular hit songs on each artists’ YouTube channel.

YouTube has also partnered with Afro Nation, Slikour Onlife and Ladies Africa to host a series of industry panel sessions focusing on African music.

The online session will focus on topics such as the global impact of Afrobeats, acceleration of Amapiano, and women in music.

The events will close on 25 May – Africa Day – with a concert hosted by Elba.
