Self-taught Cape Town-based film director Robert dos Santos is elated because his short film “A Moment” has been entered in the Los Angeles Film Awards in the US.

“Los Angeles is the home of film and cinema. The fact that South Africa can create content that can compete on an international level is important,” said Dos Santos.

A Moment is a short film that focuses on the moment right before you die when your life flashes before your eyes.

The short film will be eligible for an award at the California-based Los Angeles Film Awards.

Dos Santos says being recognised by the LA Film Awards as “very rock and roll”.

He said being nominated for an award made him ecstatic.

Dos Santo, who spent the last two years as a commercial and music director, said it was important for South African filmmakers to get their work past borders.

“Los Angeles is the home of film and cinema. The fact that South Africa can create content that can compete on an international level is important,” said the debutant film director.

Dos Santos’film “A Moment”, which premiered in May, has also been chosen to be part of the Hollywood International Golden Age Festival set for later this month.
