An initial probe into the tragic death of a newlywed couple found dead in their shower has suggested that meter tampering caused their electrocution.
Zaheer Sarang and Nabeelah Khan, who had just returned from their honeymoon, were found dead in their bathroom on Sunday.
A probe by Johannesburg City Power has found that the meter at the house had been bridged. This is usually done to avoid paying for the electricity.
City Power spokesperson, Isaac Mangena, said officials inspected the wiring at the house and discovered the meter box had been interfered with.
“What they were doing is illegal,” said Mangena.
The South African couple of Indian-origin, who got married just two weeks, was laid to rest a day after their bodies were found.
