The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) is calling members to join its march on Friday to the South African Health Products Regulatory Authority (SAHPRA) “to demand vaccines”.

EFF leader Julius Malema has been telling anyone who will listen that the government has failed with the vaccine rollout.

The EFF will gather at the SAHPRA, where they will demand vaccines from China and Russia. These vaccines are not yet available in South Africa.

Malema has warned his Red Berets will not be compelled to obey Covid-19 prevention protocols during the protest.

SAHPRA, an entity of the National Department of Health, says the vaccines from Russia and China are still being assessed.

“All roads lead to SAHPRA Head Office, Building A, Loftus Park, 402 Kirkness Str, Arcadia,” the EFF tweeted Friday morning.

“The EFF is the only hope for our people to get vaccines.”

SA is in the throes of the third wave that has seen daily confirmed cases spike to about 17 000 – with nearly 10 000 in Gauteng.

More than 2,3 million people have been vaccinated in South Africa.

However, observers have warned the EFF protest has the potential to be a superspreader.
