Belgium Proves To Be A Hazard For Defending Champions Portugal

Hazard proved to be a real hazard for Portugal with an unstoppable shot that beat Rui Patrício in goal and sent Belgium through to the EURO2020 quarter-final.

But it wasn’t Skipper Eden Hazard that scored the all-important goal late in the first half – it was his less-known brother, Thorgan.

Renato Sanchez had a good game for Portugal but seemed to lose steam in the second half.

By the time Sanchez was substituted Portugal had made 20 attempts on goal with only four on target.

On those few occasions that Portugal was on target, Belgium’s Thibaut Courtois was an unbreachable barrier.

Captain Christiano Ronaldo tested Courtois with a swerving free kick, but the Real Madrid keeper was alert and able to stop it.

The defending champions threw everything they could at Belgium in the dying minutes but they just couldn’t get the ball into the net.

After the game, Ronaldo was seen in deep conversation with Romelu Lukaku.

Belgium will meet the Azuru in the next round. Italy went through after they beat Austria 2-1 on Saturday.

In the earlier match on Sunday the Netherlands were dumped out by the Czech Republic in an upset 2-0 victory.
