The opposition Democratic Alliance (DA) on Wednesday laid criminal complaints with the police against twins Duduzile and Duduzani Zuma as well EFF leader Julius Malema for incitement of violence.

DA leader John Steenhuisen said the former president Jacob Zuma’s children and Malema had used social media to instigate the initial violence. The complaints were laid in Cape Town.

The protests started as a #FreeZuma campaign on Friday and soon turned into violent destruction and looting.

At least 72 people have lost their lives in the violent looting sprees. More than 1 000 have been arrested.

Steenhuisen has visited affected parts of Durban after days of incessant looting and destruction of property.

Estimates put the damage at over 15 billion rand.
