The Uganda weightlifter, who went missing in Tokyo and was found a few days later by Japanese police, is now in custody in his home country.
Julius Ssekitoleko returned to Uganda last week from Japan and has been held in police custody since.
Ssekitoleko shot to fame when he was reported missing from the Olympic training camp in Tokyo.
The Ugandan Olympic hopeful left a note behind saying he wanted to remain in Japan.
In the same note, Ssekitoleko asked that his belongings left in the room be sent to relatives in Uganda.
It remains unclear what charges the 21-year-old weightlifter is facing. He has been in jail for six days.
