For the second time in less than a week, South Africans have watched the horror of a person getting shot.
At the weekend an unruly man at Misty Hills lodge in Muldersdrift was shot in the head by police after he disarmed a female officer.
Staff at Misty Hills lodge had called the police when a guest, tough guy Len Cloete, became abusive towards them.
In the ensuing confrontation with the police, Cloete was shot in the head by a policeman.
Cloete survived the shooting and is under guard at the Pinehaven Hospital in Krugersdorp, where he is said to be in a coma.
The video clip of the shooting went viral on social media.
A few days ago, a 40-year-old fitness trainer and father of two was shot dead while giving a virtual workout class from his home in Saulsville, Pretoria.
A video clip of Lawrence Masinge’s murder went viral, much to the distress of many who viewed it.
In the latest video in which police shoot the unruly man, callers to radio stations have expressed divided opinions about the police action, with some saying it was not necessary to shoot Cloete in the head.
Others felt Cloete was daring and disrespecting the police and got what he deserved.
The Police and Prisons Civil Rights Union, which defended the police action, said it was concerned by how often officers have to put their lives at risk in the line of duty.
As many as 24 police officers were murdered in the first three months of 2021.
Whatever the feeling the violence on video was overwhelming for a good number of people who wished they had not viewed any of the viral clips.
