The reasons why Kaya 959 fired popular presenter Unathi “with immediate effect” on Wednesday remain shrouded in secrecy.
Other than what the radio station said, Unathi has gone to ground.
Earlier on Wednesday radio station issued a statement saying: “Kaya 959 can confirm the contract of presenter Ms. Unathi Nkayi has been terminated, effective immediately.”
Kaya 959 added: “Ms. Nkayi’s contract has ended prematurely due to certain conduct that rendered the relationship intolerable going forward.
“Kaya 959 can confirm that certain incidents had occurred, which resulted in the breakdown of the trust relationship between the two parties.”
The station said it prefers not to be drawn into a debate around the details of what transpired in the interest of both parties.
Unathi has not been reachable and she has not commented on her dismissal yet.
The 43-year-old presenter was taken through a disciplinary process before she was sacked.
Speculation was rife as to what she possibly could have done to be fired after just over a year at the station.
Unathi, who joined Kaya 959 in February 2020, hosted Midday Joy With Unathi, weekdays between 12:00 and 15:00.
