Former rural development and land reform project manager Godfrey Mthokozi Mchunu and his alleged accomplice company director Hlaleleni Dinah Shabangu have been arrested for fraud, theft, and corruption involving more than a million rand.
The pair were picked up on Wednesday, 8 December 2021, members of the Hawks in Mpumalanga.
Allegations are that 50-year-old Mchunu and 45-year-old Shabangu scammed the department by billing it for services that were never rendered.

The state’s case is that in September 2018, while Mchunu was employed as a project manager at the department he allegedly colluded with Shabangu, a Director of Frugasec cc.
Payments were made by the department to the company for services that were not rendered causing an actual loss of about R1 265 400 to the department
“The duo was arrested, charged together with the company Frugasec cc and subsequently appeared in the Nelspruit Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, 8 December 2021, and were granted bail of R5 000 each,” said Captain Dineo Lucy Sekgotodi.
“The matter was postponed to 4 February 2022 for an appearance at the Specialised Commercial Crimes court.”
