The African National Congress (ANC) has congratulated Black Coffee on his Grammy award for the Best Dance/Electronic Music Album for his album “Subconsciously”.

Nkosinathi Innocent Sizwe Maphumulo, better known by his stage name Black Coffee, scooped his gramophone gong at the 64th annual Grammy Awards Sunday night.

Accepting his award, the DJ, record producer and songwriter said: “I want to thank God, the gift of music and being able to share it with the world and heal some souls and help people go through whatever they are going through in life”.

The ANC said: “It was heartwarming to see him and his eldest son Esona accepting the Grammy Awards”.

The ANC in KwaZulu-Natal said it joins “billions of music lovers” across the world in congratulating Umlazi born DJ, internationally-renowned producer and hitmaker Black Coffee.

“Importantly, as the ANC we acknowledge the fact that Black Coffee is a symbol of hope for many aspiring DJs and music producers.

“He is highly driven and has made a profound impact in the lives of millions of people across the province.

“We pay tribute to the great son of this province who has represented all of us with distinction.”

The ANC said it was the “opportune time to put in place tangible programmes” to discover more artists like Black Coffee.

“In this regard, we are calling upon the ANC government, at all levels, to roll out tangible programmes to resuscitate the creative industry following the devastating impact caused by the outbreak of Covid-19.”

Congratulations to @RealBlackCoffee for winning the GRAMMY for Best Dance/Electronic Music Album 🔥🎧🌍 From Africa to the world!
