Andile Aalivirah Mthembu – the aunt from Tsakane accused of fatally assaulting her 16-year-old nephew and burying him in her yard in Tsakane, on Monday confessed to the dastardly deeds before she abandoned her bail application.

Mthembu appeared before the Tsakane District Court earlier facing charges of murder and defeating the ends of justice.

It is alleged that 36-year-old Mthembu beat Neo with a stick, while her 14-year-old son held him down on the her instruction.

“Mthembu confessed in front of Magistrate Nico Venter in his chambers that she indeed committed the alleged offences because the nephew had admitted to stealing money from her,” said Lumka Mahanjana, National Prosecution Authority regional spokesperson.

The assault occurred on 22 March 2022.

“Mthembu was arrested on 1 April 2022, after her son sent pictures of the incident to his relative in KwaZulu Natal,” said Mahanjana.

“The relatives then called the police and Mthembu pointed out where she had buried the body of the deceased.”

The matter was postponed to 12 April 2022, for further investigation and to be transferred to the Regional Court.
