Eskom CEO André de Ruyter on Monday announced that Stage 3 load-shedding will be implemented from 5 pm to 10 pm “tonight”.
De Ruyter revealed that eight generating units failed at the weekend resulting in the loss of about 16 000MW – roughly half the electricity the country consumes.
At the weekend Eskom implemented Stage 2 citing generation capacity constrained.
The power utility warned that it could ramp it up to Stage 4 if it fails to return failed generating units to operation.
