Struggling Eskom has warned load-shedding will continue this week as it battles to keep the lights on amid labour action that has seen large numbers of workers fail to report for work.
“Stage 6 load-shedding will be implemented on Monday afternoon,” Eskom has announced.
The under-pressure power utility said varying stages of load-shedding will be implemented during the week.
“As the generation capacity shortages persist over the next few weeks, load-shedding will continue to be implemented at various stages.”
Eskom warned it would take weeks for the power generation system to fully recover to pre-strike levels.
“Depending on several possibilities – including the workforce fully returning to work to conduct much-needed repairs to equipment,” Eskom said at the weekend.
The power utility said on Monday load-shedding will be ramped up to Stage 6 in the afternoon.
