Convicted murderer 32-year-old John Leonard du Plooy – who is serving two life sentences for murders of elderly people in Springs and Alberton – has appeared in court for another murder.
Du Plooy appeared in the Roodepoort Regional Court on Thursday for murder and aggravated Robbery.
“The case was allegedly committed in August 2018 in Roodepoort by the accused who is already serving two life sentences and additional 30 years imprisonment for the Springs and Alberton murders…,” Captain Dineo Lucy Sekgotodi said.
Du Plooy also faces charges of aggravated robbery committed in June and September 2018.
Du Plooy is a co-accused of convicted 42-year-old murderer Shaun Oosthuizen, who was sentenced by the Pretoria Regional Court on 16 May 2022 to four life sentences plus 80 years imprisonment.

Captain Sekgotodi said the arrest of the two accused followed investigations into the murders of four elderly women, who were robbed and murdered at old age homes in Mpumalanga and Gauteng between 2018 and 2019.
However, the latest case against Du Plooy was postponed to 22 July 2022 and the accused was remanded in custody.
Hawks Provincial Head Major General Zodwa Mokoena on Friday applauded the investigating team for the arrests and convictions of the callous murderers.
“We appreciate the collaboration between the investigators and judiciary for ensuring that the heartless criminals who tormented the elderly that could not defend themselves are removed from the community,” she said.
Major General Zodwa Mokoena urged those responsible for the care of the elderly to take extra safety precautions.
