South African Revenue Services (SARS) staffers belonging to the National Education, Health and Allied Workers’ Union (NEHAWU) were expected to down tools Tuesday.
The union said at the weekend that its members rejected SARS’ revised offer of 1.39% wage hikes.
NEHAWU said it rejected the revised offer and has mobilised members for “a re-commencement of the full-blown strike across all SARS workplaces”.
Initially, the union embarked on a two-day strike on 25 and 26 May 2022 to press for higher wage increases of 7 % “across the board”.
“We have tried to engage the institution since May 2022 and they remained stubborn with [their] 1.39% [offer] which is way below the inflation rate of 5.9 percent currently,” said NEHAWU.
NEHAWU declared: “The strike action will re-commence on the 12th July 2022.”
“SARS has left us with no option other than to mobilise our mass power and take our battle to the streets.”
