The “Don” is serving a prison sentence for selling illicit drugs, escaping from custody, and breaching the immigration laws of South Africa.
Faced with these multiple charges, 36-year-old Chibuzo Chicozie “Don” Ogbunuku has entered a plea agreement with the State that will see him spend eight years in prison.
The Don was convicted of dealing in illicit drugs, conspiracy to commit an offence, corruption, escaping from custody, and illegal entry into South Africa.
Hawks Provincial Head, Major General Zodwa Mokoena welcomed the sentence of the drug dealer.
She praised the investigation team and lauded collaboration with other law enforcement entities to bring criminals to book.
Captain Dineo Lucy Sekgotodi said between June 2021 and July 2022, several drug dealing suspects were arrested during the Bethal “Dream on” project in Mpumalanga.
The case against 36-year-old Okereke Valentine Okwudiri, 30-year-old Kadima Remy, 34-year-old Male Mokoko, 35-year-old Mukembani Justin Kasindo, 25-year-old Rudi Angel Kishuka, 42-year-old Bongiwe Malingela, 35-year-old David Enewere, and 32-year-old Hassanda Kaluwe was postponed to 30 August 2022.
The postponement was to allow the accused time to secure legal representation.
Another accused, 35-year-old Mbusho Janvier Kikaranga, who did not appear in court in person, was remanded to 15 August 2022 for bail application.
All the other accused appeared before the Bethal Regional Court on Tuesday, 2 August 2022, for dealing in narcotics.
