KwaZulu-Natal Finance MEC Nomusa Dube-Ncube will be sworn in as premier of the province on Wednesday.
Dube-Ncube, the former ambassador to the Czech Republic, was nominated premier-elect on Monday to replace Sihle Zikalala who resigned from the position.
Zikalala resigned two weeks after he lost the African National Congress (ANC) chairperson position to Siboniso Duma in a hotly contested poll.
Traditionally, the party chairperson has tended to be appointed premier of the province, where the ANC has won elections.
The new KwaZulu-Natal ANC chairperson Duma, however, reportedly turned down the opportunity to take over from Zikalala until the elections in 2024.
Dube-Ncube will be the first female Premier of KwaZulu-Natal.
Accepting the nomination, Dube-Ncube thanked the ANC for entrusting her with the “responsibility” to lead the province.
