The 28-year-old woman accused of the murder of 45-year-old police sergeant, Mandlenkosi Happy Thwala, has been identified as Zanele Mkhonto.
Sergeant Thwala was found dead in his house in Gedlembane, Pienaar, just over a week ago (2 August 2022).
He had multiple gunshots to the upper body and his service pistol was missing.

Murder accused Mkhonto, who was arrested soon after Thwala was found dead, appeared in the KaNyamazane Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday (10 August 2022).
The matter was, however, postponed to 12 August 2022 so that the accused can secure Legal Aid and apply for bail.
Mkhonto was remanded in custody.
Her case will be transferred to Kabokweni Magistrate’s Court.
The Provincial Head of The Directorate For Priority Crime Investigation Major General Zodwa Mokoena said the murder was being investigated by the Hawks in Mpumalanga.
Major General Mokoena urged community members to share any information that might assist the investigation with the Hawks.
