WATER WARNING: Rand Water has warned of supply disruptions from Friday to Tuesday when it will be carrying out maintenance work
SHARE

Rand Water has announced that from Friday to Tuesday water supplies to, several areas in Tshwane, Johannesburg and Ekurhuleni will be disrupted when it carries out scheduled planned maintenance of its B6 pipeline.

“The scheduled tie-in is for the newly constructed B6 pipeline which has been constructed to augment a portion of the existing B6 pipeline,” said Rand Water.

“The tie-in is at the corner of Oak Street and Boundary Street, Garthdale.

“The execution of the project will start from 09:30 in the morning on Friday  (19 August 2022) and to be completed on Tuesday (23 August 2022) at 13h00.”

Rand Water said the project will be undertaken in about 87,5 hours.

The water authority said it issued a 21-day notice to the affected municipal customers; the City of Ekurhuleni, City of Tshwane, and Johannesburg Water.

The same notice was issued to direct customers – Airports Company South Africa (ACSA) and South African Airways (SAA), to allow them to execute their appropriate contingency plans.

Rand Water said it has advised local municipalities and direct customers – ACSA and SAA – to fill their reservoirs before the maintenance work commences.

Palmiet Pumping Station will still be operational and pumping at 90% of its capacity.

Commenting on the maintenance work, the City of Tshwane said: “During the shutdown, Rand Water’s Palmiet Booster Station will supply the City’s residents with a lesser percentage of water than the usual capacity.

“Residents are advised to use water sparingly during this time to prevent reservoirs from running dry.

“They should also ensure that they store sufficient water to sustain them for the duration of the shutdown.”

Rand Water said the following areas under City of Tshwane will be affected:
• Laudium
• Mabopane
• Soshanguve
• Akasia reservoir 2
• Lotus garden

• Blair Athol seservoir
• Sunderland Ridge
• Erasmia
• Saulsville reservoir
• Wonderbloom reservoir
• Louwlardia reservoir
• Kosmodal
• Rooihuiskraal reservoir

• Klopper Park
• Marlands
• Solheim
• Elandsfontein
