HIGH-SPEED COLLISION: One of the drivers burnt to death after his truck caught alight in Mpumalanga

A high-speed collision on Monday afternoon between two trucks along the N4 national highway, between Malelane and Komatipoort in Mpumalanga, has resulted in a driver being burnt to death.

Emer-G-Med said when paramedics arrived on the scene of the horror crash, they were met with absolute mayhem.

Two coal trucks had collided head-on, at high speed, and caught alight.

“As a result of the impact, one of the trucks caught fire, engulfing the occupant, a male driver believed to be approximately 40 years of age,” said Emer-G-Med.

“Unfortunately he was burnt beyond recognition and declared dead on arrival of paramedics.”

The driver of the second truck was treated for minor injuries only.

In a second incident, a light motor vehicle crashed into the two trucks, resulting in four adult occupants suffering moderate injuries.

“They were treated and stabilised on scene before being taken to a nearby hospital for further care,” siad Emer-G-Med.

Traffic in the area was severely affected as the roadway was closed to allow emergency personnel to work
