Pretoria – Electricity supplies have been restored at the Home Affairs back office and the clearing and issuing of IDs and passports has resumed.
“It’s all systems go at Home Affairs offices as power is restored at the Department’s back office in Pretoria,” said the Department of Home Affairs on Wednesday.
The back office, which clears IDs and passports before they can be issued, suffered a power failure Tuesday that resulted in services being suspended, while the fault was being attended to.
“Citizens can visit offices from today, Wednesday (14 September 2022), for all Home Affairs services, including smart ID cards and passports,” said Home Affairs.
“Power was restored early this morning with technicians confirming it is all systems go after working around the clock overnight to fix the problem speedily, to minimise the impact on citizens.
“Yesterday (13 September 2022) the Department had experienced a power failure at its back office, which had affected all ‘Live Capture’ applications, including Smart ID Cards and passports, which cannot be issued without first being cleared in this back office.
“The department would like to thank citizens and clients for patience and understanding.”
