Johannesburg – Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana will not face any prosecution regarding reported allegations of sexual assault of a masseuse while he was holidaying in Mpumalanga.
Last month, the minister admitted he had a massage in his room at the five-star Kruger Shalati Lodge in Skukuza, but he denied the accusations.
Godongwana said the reported assault never happened and he even offered his full cooperation to law enforcement agencies that investigated the matter.
On Friday, the Director of Public Prosecutions declined to prosecute the minister regarding the complainant laid on 11 August 2022 at the Skukuza Police Station.
“The Director of Public Prosecutions in Mpumalanga Division, Advocate Nkebe Kanyane has declined to prosecute the Minister of Finance, Mr. Enoch Godongwana,” the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) said in a terse statement attributed to Monica Nyuswa, NPA Regional Spokesperson Mpumalanga Division
“The decision relates to a case of sexual assault opened against the minister by a complainant on 11 August 2022 in Skukuza Police Station.
“The charges relate to an incident that is alleged to have occurred on 9 August 2022 at a hotel in Skukuza, Mpumalanga.”
The NPA added: “The decision follows a thorough assessment of all available evidence and after consultations with the complainant who expressly did not wish to proceed with the case despite being offered all the necessary support available to complainants in cases of this nature”.
