Pretoria – Metrorail on Monday suspended the train service in the north of Gauteng which will affect commuter train services from Pretoria to Mabopane, Saulsville, and Pienaarspoort.
Explaining the reason for the suspension of services, Metrorail Gauteng said it was “experiencing power outages due to outstanding Eskom delayed payment, which will affect all its rail operations in Gauteng north”.
As a result, Metrorail said train services will not be operational on the following lines:
- Mabopane – Pretoria
- Saulsville – Pretoria
- Pienaarspoort – Pretoria
The services will remain suspended until Metrorail’s parent company the Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa (PRASA) and Eskom management resolve the problem.
“Commuters are therefore encouraged to make their own alternative transport arrangements,” Metrorail said.
The management of Metrorail said it “regrets and apologises for this unfortunate situation and commits to work on finding a long-term speedy solution in the best interests of commuters”.
