Pretoria – The Tshwane Metro Police Department (TMPD) on Wednesday relaunched the TMPD Bicycle Unit in Hatfield.
The relaunch follows the renewal of the TMPDs partnership with the Hatfield City Improvement District (CID) and the University of Pretoria.
“Today, the TMPD Bicycle Unit received 20 new bicycles worth a collective R300 0000 donated by the University of Pretoria,” said Mayor Randall Williams.
The total cost works out to R15 000 a bicycle.
The Hatfield TMPD Bicycle Unit was first launched in 2017. Following its success, it was later expanded into a fully operational satellite station in 2019.
“Daily, we have ten officers deployed per shift with one supervisor, which ensures police visibility in the area,” said Williams.
“The partnership between our TMPD Bicycle Unit and the Hatfield CID has proven to be effective in road policing, by-law enforcement, and crime prevention in Hatfield.”
Incidents and services January to September 2022

- Medical assistance 104 patients assisted

“I would like to thank all our stakeholders who have made the TMPD Bicycle Unit relaunch a success,” said Williams.
“May we continue to work together to keep our communities safe.”
