Johannesburg – ActionSA has weighed in on the court ruling reinstating the multi-party government in the City of Joburg, saying the ball was now very much in the court of the Democratic Alliance to end the squabbling among the coalition partners.

Commenting on Tuesday’s ruling, ActionSA said it “welcomes the high court judgment, which has reinstated the multiparty coalition in Johannesburg, finding that the motions of no-confidence to remove that government by the ANC [African National Congress] were in fact unlawful.
ActionSA added: “However, this poses a critical question as to whether this multiparty government restored to office will last a day or a week or for the remainder of the five-year term of office.”
ActionSA said it has put up its hand to work with the Democratic Alliance and other coalition partners.
“We are available to work with our coalition partners to do whatever is necessary to ensure that this multiparty coalition can continue to deliver services and fight corruption and for the full five-year term of office, because we cannot fix the problems of Johannesburg with anything less than a full-term of office,” ActionSA said.
The multiparty government is made up of the Democratic Alliance, FF Plus, ActionSA, COPE, IFP, ACDP and PA.
“We believe the ball remains very much in the court of the Democratic Alliance who have made a number of public statements over the weekend, and it is for the Democratic Alliance to come out publicly and communicate whether they are willing to do what is necessary to reinstate this multiparty coalition government and see to it that it delivers for another four years,” ActionSA said.
