Top South Africa musician Makhadzi ran into trouble with the law in Botswana, where she was briefly held on Christmas Day until she agreed to pay a promoter compensation for a gig she failed to show up for.
Botswana-based Mmegi Online www.mmegi.bw is reporting that “following a legal standoff this morning, popular South African musician Makhadzi agreed to pay P21 000 and committed to performing at two future music festivals organised by promoters she ditched at the last minute in September.”
The reports said sheriffs pounced on Makhadzi after her performance at Gaabo Motho Music festival in Moshupa on Christmas morning.
Makhadzi’s troubles emanate from a music festival she allegedly missed back in September in Maun are suing her for P713 000.

The organisers Unami Thato Moseki and Nandi Flame Ventures secured a court order on December 23 to compel Makhadzi to compensate them or face jail time.
However, the popular South African artist has refuted suggestions she has run into trouble with Botswana authorities.
“I can see allegations of me being arrested, to all my fans please stop entertaining the lies, no Police came to arrest me and I haven’t received any papers,” Makhadzi posted on Facebook.
“I am safe and free as I am speaking now, I am eating my Christmas in the rehearsal room, preparing for my show for tomorrow 26 December at Giyani Stadium… Please come support me.
“Tickets are available at Computicket and Webtickets. I pray the allegations are not meant for you to not come to my show thinking I am arrested, some people are wicked yoooo, sending love and light to you all.”
