The EFF said the meeting must discuss the response by the City of Ekurhuleni, the immediate interventions required, and the necessary steps to ensure accountability and aiding of the victims.
“This extraordinary council meeting must invite specialists in the health, environment and infrastructure sectors, and relevant departments at the National and Provincial governments to chart out a better-informed response,” the EFF said on Monday.
In a statement attributed to Nkululeko Dunga, EFF Gauteng Provincial Chairperson, the party added: “This tragedy has caused serious damage to society, and the municipality and public representatives cannot afford to treat it like an ordinary issue by enjoying holidays.
“We demand that the house sitting must take place by no later than Wednesday, (28 December 2022), further delays will only aggravate the situation.”
