Johannesburg – A truck laden with bricks has crashed into a classroom at a school in Cosmo City and injured as many as 15 schoolchildren.

Emer-G-Med said paramedics responded to a call for help at the school just before 11H00 on Wednesday.

“On arrival on scene a truck was found to have careened off the roadway ploughing into a classroom full of learners,” Emer-G-Med.

“Fifteen learners aged between 14 and 18 years of age suffered injuries ranging from minor to moderate and were treated and stabilised on scene before being taken to a nearby hospital for further care.”

The SA Police Serice is investigatiing the cause of the crash.

Gauteng Department of Education Spokesperson Steve Mabona said the truck loaded with bricks drove into a mobile classroom at Blue Eagle Secondary School in Cosmo City.

“Information at our disposal reveals that there were no serious injuries except two learners who were rushed to hospital,” said Mabona.

“We wish them a speedy recovery and Psycho-Social support will be provided accordingly.”
