Durban – Two people – a man and a woman in their 20s – died in a late-night car crash along the M19, near Reservoir Hills just after 11 pm on Saturday.
First responders from ALS Paramedics Medical Services arrived on the scene soon after the crash.
One of the cars had veered off the road after the collision and came to rest down an embankment.
“A female in her twenties was found entrapped in the wreckage,” said ALS Paramedics.
“She was quickly assessed on the scene, however, she had sustained fatal injuries and there was nothing more paramedics could do for her.”
She was declared deceased on the scene.
In the other car, paramedics found the driver – a male in his twenties – was also entrapped in the wreckage. He had suffered critical injuries.
“He was stabilised on the scene by Advanced Life Support Paramedics before being rushed through to a nearby Durban hospital for the further treatment that he required,” ALS Paramedics said.
“However he went into a state of cardiac arrest and despite doctors’ attempts to resuscitate him his injuries were too severe and he was declared deceased at the hospital.
“Two other patients from the other vehicle sustained moderate to serious injuries and were stabilised on the scene before being transported to a nearby Durban hospital.”
The SA Police Service officers were on the scene.

A few hours later, just after midnight, one person died and four others were injured in a car crash on South Coast Road.
ALS Paramedics Medical Services and Netcare 911 arrived on the scene to find a car had overturned and come to rest against a wall.
“One person was found entrapped underneath the vehicle with fatal injuries,” said ALS Paramedics
“There was nothing more Paramedics could do for him and he was declared deceased on the scene.”
ALS Paramedics said persons with serious injuries were stabilised on the scene before being taken to a nearby Durban hospital.
