Johannesburg – Eskom on Tuesday ramped up load-shedding to Stage 5.

In a power alert, Eskom said: “Stage 5 load-shedding will be implemented from 12H00 this afternoon until 21:00 tonight.

“Thereafter Stage 6 load-shedding will be implemented until 05H00 tomorrow morning.”

The struggling power utility said in the last 24 hours six generating units broke down.

Exacerbating the problem was that two units – at Duvha and Hendrina – had not returned to service.

Eskom said there was also a delay in returning generating units to operations at Kendal, Grootvlei, and Kriel power stations.
