Durban – An elderly female driver, who was one of the four people injured in a car crash Sunday morning along Tara Road on The Bluff, has died.
Hours earlier, the woman had been airlifted to a hospital from the crash scene, ALS Paramedics Medical Services said.
“The driver of this vehicle in her 80s has unfortunately passed away in hospital due to her injuries,” ALS Paramedics said in an update Sunday.
The collision just after 08:00, near Pick n Pay, involving two cars left four people injured.
ALS Paramedics Medical Services said when they arrived on the scene i the morning they found “total carnage as two badly damaged vehicles were found on the roadway”.
ALS Paramedics Medical Services added: “One driver, a lady believed to be in her 80s was severely entrapped in her vehicle with serious injuries.
“Advanced Life Support Paramedics worked to stabilise the lady while the Ethekwini Fire Department used the Jaws of Life and other hydraulic equipment to try and free the lady from the wreckage.
“Once free she was rushed through to a nearby Durban hospital for the further treatment that she required.”
ALS Paramedics Medical Services said three other occupants from the vehicles sustained injuries “ranging from moderate to severe were also stabilised on the scene before being transported to a nearby Durban hospital”.
However, the elderly woman passed away in hospital.
