Pretoria – Blue Bulls junior rugby player Ngcebo Thuso, who was arrested for the murder of third-year Tshwane University of Technology student, Ntokozo Mayenzi Xaba, on Monday abandoned his bail attempt.
The 23-year-old murder suspect abandoned his bail application at the Pretoria Magistrates Court.
Evidence was that student Xaba had a social gathering at her off-campus residence with a few friends at the beginning of the month.
Friends said when they came to check on her in the morning at her residence they found 20-year-old dead with stab wounds.
Thuso, who was reportedly Xaba’s ex-boyfriend, was allegedly the last person to leave the residence after the social gathering.
The rugby player was picked up for questioning the same day Xaba was found dead and later arrested. He has been in custody since then.

The murder has galvanised civil society, gender activists and political parties, and ordinary people to demand that the rugby player be denied bail.
However, on Monday Thuso abandoned his bail application.
In court, Prosecutor Mashudu Nembulunge told the court that the state had come prepared to oppose bail in the matter.
The case was adjourned to 30 March 2023, for further investigations.
Thuso will remain behind bars until his next court appearance.
