Johannesburg – Rand Water has announced that it will carry out scheduled maintenance of its M9 pipeline from Friday, 24 February 2023, which will result in some areas experiencing water shortages.

The M9 Pipeline runs from Brakpan Reservoir to Selcourt Reservoir in the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality.

“The implementation of the project entails isolating and draining water from the existing M9 pipeline before the tie-in could commence,” explained Rand Water.

The areas to be affected include Wildebeesfontein, Stompies, Selcourt Reservoir, Delmas, Secunda, Sasol, Bethal, Kinross, Devon, Endicott, Leandra (Leslie) Embalenhle, Trichardt, Evander, Brendan village, Eendraagt, Bloemendal area, Winkelhaak, and Corobrick.

Rand Water said the two-day planned maintenance of its M9 pipeline, which will take about 39 hours, will begin from 18:00 on 24 February 2023 and end at 09:00 on 26 February 2023.

“The organisation would like to urge consumers to use water sparingly and apologise for any inconvenience that might have been caused,” Rand Water said.

Rand Water said it has provided the affected municipal customers with 21 days advance notification of the scheduled maintenance to allow them to execute their appropriate contingency plans.

“Possible water supply reduction meter connections that will be affected by this shutdown are Ekurhuleni Metro, Victor Khanye Municipality, Govan Mbeki Municipality, and Lesedi Municipality,” said Rand Water.

“The full water supply recovery period will take approximately four hours.”

Rand Water said it will provide water using the existing M1 and M6 pipelines.

However, the following areas could also experience water supply shortages; Wildebeesfontein, Stompies, Selcourt Reservoir, Delmas, Secunda, Sasol, Bethal, Kinross, Devon, Endicott, Leandra (Leslie) Embalenhle, Trichardt, Evander, Brendan village, Eendraagt, Bloemendal area, Winkelhaak, and Corobrick.

Rand Water has formally informed its customers of the possible water supply shortage during this period so it could execute necessary contingency plans.
