Johannesburg – ActionSA has admitted all is not well between political high-flyer, Gauteng Provincial Chairperson Bongani Baloyi, and party president, Herman Mashaba.
Michael Beaumont, ActionSA National Chairperson, on Sunday admitted – as earlier reported – discussions took place between Mashaba and Baloyi amid “irreconcilable differences”.
“ActionSA can confirm that a meeting did take place with Baloyi on Tuesday 7 March which discussed a proposal of a change of role for Baloyi arising from irreconcilable differences on the running of the Gauteng provincial structures,” said Beaumont.
“Baloyi had asked for time prior to a meeting this coming week to consider the matter and we are disappointed that it has appeared in the media prior to this meeting.”
In December 2021 the former Midvaal mayor, Baloyi, quit the Democratic Alliance after 14 years with the party.
Baloyi’s move to join ActionSA on 24 January 2022 was a highly publicised affair at which he said: “the 2024 national and provincial elections will be his main focus”.
