Pietermaritzburg – Police Minister General Bheki Cele and the top management of the South African Police Service (SAPS) top brass on Friday visited the crime scene, where 10 people from the same family were shot dead in Pietermaritzburg, KwaZulu-Natal.
The deceased included seven women and three men. The youngest victim was only 13 years old.
Police are yet to establish the motive for the mass murders.
At least two suspects thought to be linked to the violent storming of the homestead have since been arrested after a shootout with the police.
General Cele said one suspect was shot dead and another was on the run.
The attack occurred under cover of darkness at about 02:00 in the morning when the area was experiencing load-shedding.
