Kriel – Former Kriel Power Station finance manager Sifiso Jacob Masina has been found guilty and sentenced for fraud and theft by the Kriel Regional Court on Tuesday, (25 April 2023).
Masina was convicted and sentenced to eight years imprisonment wholly suspended for five years on the condition that he is not convicted of fraud and theft during the period.
The accused was declared unfit to possess a firearm in terms of section 103 of Act 60 of 2000. He was also ordered to pay back the money he stole from Eskom.
The court found that the 42-year-old suspect was a finance manager at Eskom Kriel Power Station when he made irregular payments to two companies – Mandlenkosi Logistics and Lusthala Supply & Transport.
Investigations revealed that Mandlenkosi Logistics belonged to the accused Masina and the other company Lusthala Supply & Transport belonged to his mother.
Both companies received payments amounting to R513 830 from Eskom without rendering any services.
As part of the sentence, Masina was ordered to pay back the R513 830 to Eskom.
