It is alleged that on Friday, (5 May 2023), at about 16:10, a cash-in -transit armoured vehicle (AV), was travelling from Mkhulu to Hazyview when it was attacked by about seven armed robbers.
The robbers shot at their vehicle, hitting the right front tyre that caused it to stop.

Both the driver and the guard in the passenger seat were disarmed by the robbers.
The suspects then used an explosive device to force open the AV before making off with an undisclosed amount of money.
A helicopter of Fidelity, which was escorting the AV, saw the attack and followed the suspects’ getaway cars.
A suspect jumped out of one of the getaway cars – a Toyota Hilux – and attempted to flee on foot.
Fidelity Security guards gave chase and arrested the suspect, who has since been unmasked and identified as Mnisi.
The Toyota Hilux, and two other cars – a Haval, and a VW Tiguan – were later found abandoned and the robbers were gone with their loot.
A preliminary investigation at the scene revealed that all three vehicles were robbed from their owners who were standing because of road blockage during the robbery.
