Johannesburg – The African National Congress Women’s League (ANCWL) is today, (Sunday 11 Jube 2023), holding a national prayer service for former minister Tina Joemat-Pettersson, who died a week ago.
At the time of her passing, Joemat-Pettersson was a Member of Parliament and Chairperson of the National Assembly’s Portfolio Committee on Police.
The ANCWL said, “In remembrance of the late ANC National Executive Committee and National Working Committee member, Comrade Tina Joemat-Pettersson,” it will hold a “national prayer service”.
The prayer service on Sunday will be held virtually and physically.
Comrade Tina was a long-standing member of the ANC Women’s League and had been instrumental in its revival efforts.
The virtual prayer service can be followed on @MyANC social media pages from 18h:00.
The physical prayer service will be held at the Aldersgate Methodist Church, Florianville, Kimberley in the Northern Cape.
The prayer service is part of the mourning period announced earlier in the week by the ANC.
The ANC declared a mourning period from 8 -17 June 2023 and ordered that “all our flags” in provincial and regional offices “must be flown at half mast”.
