DRY TAPS: Power interruptions at Rand Water have affected the water supply to some parts of Tshwane
SHARE

Pretoria – Power interruptions at Rand Water have affected the water supply to some parts of Tshwane.

The City of Tshwane on Friday revealed that it has been notified by Rand Water about the inconsistent supply challenges that are underway.

Water supply interruptions are affecting Tshwane and other municipalities.

“This follows a number of power failures and trips experienced during this month (June) at the Vereeniging and Zuikerbosch Water Treatment Plants as well as at the Palmiet, Eikenhof, and Mapleton Booster Pumping Stations,” the City of Tshwane said.

“Due to these power failures, the entire water utility system has felt a knock-on effect of unstable supply.”

The City of Tshwane explained that power outages have resulted in the depletion of water in the following Rand Water reservoirs.

  • Brakpan
  • Vlakfontein
  • Klipfontein
  • Hartebeeshoek
  • Bronberge
  • Wildebeesfontein
  • Selcourt
  • Stompiesfontein

Rand Water also warned that some areas within municipalities were likely to “experience low water pressure to no water during the recovery of their system”.

The City of Tshwane added: “This is now evident in the case of the areas north of Pretoria, where there is low water pressure to no water in places like Soshanguve, Mabopane, and Ga-Rankuwa”.

The Rand Water reservoirs supplying the City of Tshwane are Vlakfontein, Klipfontein, Hartebeeshoek, and Bronberge.

The city encouraged residents to assist in conserving and using water sparingly by adhering to the following:

  • Do not water gardens,
  • Do not wash cars,
  • Do not clean driveways or pavements using hosepipes,
  • Do not fill swimming pools,
  • Flush toilets only when necessary,
  • Close a running tap while brushing teeth,
  • Reduce daily water usage as much as possible.

“‘The City of Tshwane apologises for the inconvenience that may be encountered,” said a notice issued by the Communication, Marketing, and Events Department.

“In addition, the city appeals to all residents to use water sparingly during this time.”
