Pretoria – President Cyril Ramaphosa on Thursday offered “his deepest condolences” to Limpopo Premier Chupu Stanley Mathabatha on the passing of his wife, Maggie Mathabatha.
She passed away on Wednesday, 28 June, following a short illness.
President Ramaphosa said: “My thoughts and those of the National Executive as well as the nation are with Premier Mathabatha, his family, and the administration of Limpopo in this moment of loss.
“As a community-focused leader, Maggie Mathabatha dedicated herself to the development and dignity of the people of Limpopo through housing opportunities, food security, and support for people with disabilities.
“Her involvement with communities was a valued and exemplary complement to the work of government led by the Premier and the provincial executive.
“We join the people of Limpopo in this hour of mourning and in our shared prayer that the soul of Maggie Mathabatha will rest in peace.”
Meanwhile, the African National Congress (ANC) said it has “learned with sorrow the passing of Mme Pebetse Mathabatha, one of the outstanding leaders in Limpopo Province and our country”.
The ANC said the Mme Pebetse Mathabatha was a community activist, leading community development initiatives as a patron of Limpopo First Lady Trust.
“She played a strong role in the empowerment of rural communities in several ways, especially the upliftment of young people and women as the most important sectors of our society,” said the ANC.
“The ANC extends its heartfelt condolences to Comrade Stanley Chupu Mathabatha, the entire Mathabatha family, and many communities whose lives were positively impacted by Mme Mathabatha.
“May her dear soul rest in eternal peace.”
