Johannesburg – Antoinette Slabbert, senior energy journalist with Rapport newspaper, has been re-elected Chairperson of the National Press Club (NPC).
Independent Media senior editor, Kennedy Mudzuli, assumes the Deputy Chairpersonship.
PINA News journalist Frans Sello waga Machate has been elected as the club’s Secretary.
Groot FM’s Carla Burg got nominated and elected as Treasurer.
Gautrain’s senior communications executive, Albi Modise becomes the National Press Club’s Public Relations Officer and Mosidi Mokgele of Essence Consulting returns to her position as General Manager for the NPC.
“I would like to thank the previous committee for their vote of confidence in my leadership and also these new committee members for their faith in me and continued belief in my ability to lead the club,” Slabbert said.
NPC Office Bearers are joined by the following elected executive committee members:
- Graeme Hosken (Sunday Times),
- Reynold Thakuli (SA National Parks),
- Ananias Ndlovu (Naledi Media) is the club’s North West Province coordinator,
- Mashudu Sadike (Independent Media),
- Willem van de Putte (Independent Media),
- Belinda Pheto (News24) who is responsible for coordinating the Gauteng Province,
- Lali van Zuydam (Stellenbosch University) the social media manager,
- Pieter Cloete (Maroela Media) is responsible for website management and
- William Baloyi from GCIS will be responsible for government relations.
“I firmly believe that this Club should continue to play a central role in affirming our democracy while creating a platform for dialogue and exchange of ideas between the media and those in authority, be it government or private sector,” said Slabbert.
“We continue to provide a networking platform for journalists and communications practitioners and hope to extend our activities to different provinces in the coming months, as well as host our various existing projects.”
National Press Club is embarking on a national footprint to have representation/chapters in all the provinces of South Africa, this is to ensure that there are structures closer to all members across the country.
Frans Sello waga Machate said: “This is a well-balanced executive committee in every manner, with a sharp generational mix to ensure continuity and stability of the organisation.
“These exco members are very energetic and determined to take National Press Club to the next level and to transform it even better than it is.”
