Johannesburg – You Made This (YMT) has announced its collaboration with Absa for the highly anticipated exhibition titled “Drowning Planet.”

YMT is an art-based initiative dedicated to raising public awareness and engagement around the critical issues of electronic waste (eWaste).

Drowning Planet is an impactful and thought-provoking exhibition that aims to shed light on the pressing issue of eWaste and its profound impact on climate change.

As planet Earth is increasingly polluted by a rising tide of eWaste, everyone must take responsibility for their role in this crisis.

YMT’s founder Dominic Humphry-Arewa said his mission is to promote the proper disposal of eWaste, which has become the fastest-growing waste source worldwide.

“Through innovative art collaborations, YMT advocates for a circular economy approach, encouraging the refurbishment and reuse of electronics to minimise waste and create a greener future,”

“The exhibition will showcase a captivating collection of artworks created from discarded electronics, serving as a powerful reminder of the devastating consequences of unchecked consumerism.

“By transforming eWaste into stunning pieces of art, we seek to inspire and educate the public about the importance of embracing a circular economy that reduces waste and promotes the repurposing of valuable resources.”

Xperien’s unwavering commitment to sustainability and support for YMT’s mission have transformed waste into remarkable works of art.

This partnership signifies a new era in Xperien’s perception of retired technology while highlighting the shared vision between Xperien and YMT in creatively repurposing eWaste.

By converting eWaste into art, Xperien and YMT not only reduce waste but also raise awareness with artistic flair, demonstrating their genuine dedication to sustainability.

Xperien CEO Wale Arewa says the scale of the eWaste problem necessitates collaborative efforts.

“By turning eWaste into art, Xperien and YMT not only address waste reduction but also amplify awareness in a captivating way.”

Xperien’s commitment to sustainability is more than mere rhetoric; it is a dynamic pursuit.

The partnership between Xperien and YMT serves as a model for integrating corporate social responsibility (CSR) into the corporate world, setting a template for others to follow and contributing to a sustainable future.

With an estimated 53.6 million metric tons of eWaste generated in 2020 alone, it is evident that urgent action is needed.

Not only does eWaste contribute to climate change through harmful greenhouse gas emissions, but it also pollutes our air, water, and soil with toxic chemicals.

By leveraging the power of art, YMT aims to ignite conversations and drive positive change.

Visitors to Drowning Planet will have the opportunity to engage with the captivating artworks and reflect on their own consumption habits.

YMT encourages everyone to share their experiences on social media, using the hashtag #DrowningPlanet, to amplify the message and raise further awareness about the importance of adopting a sustainable and responsible approach to electronics.

“By supporting You Made This and attending the Drowning Planet exhibition, you not only appreciate art but also become an integral part of a vital movement aimed at protecting our environment and ensuring a healthy and thriving planet for future generations.

Together, we can create a powerful wave of change and turn the tide against eWaste,” he concludes.
