Pretoria – Repairs to the Muckleneuk pipeline that saw several areas of the City’s water supply affected have been completed.
“Repairs were finished last night, and water was allowed into the system from the Salvokop reservoir,” the City of Tshwane announced on Sunday.
“Artisans from the City of Tshwanes Regional Operations and Coordination Department have finalised repairs to the burst pipe in the Muckleneuk vicinity that left residents and businesses in various areas at the margins of the Pretoria CBD without water.”
The City said the process of filling the water network will take time, given the fact that the pipeline had run completely dry.
“The engineers must be cautious when pumping water into the system in order to avoid any hiccups such as leakages and/or pipe bursts,” the City said.
“This means that water will be gradually allowed into the network.
“The Citys engineers are monitoring the network, and it is hoped that it will stabilise soon.”
Consumers in low-lying areas were the first to receive water.
“This is due to the network needing to build up enough pressure, which will lead to high-lying areas receiving water optimally,” the City said.
“It is important for consumers to be prudent when using water.”
The City urged consumers not to water gardens, wash cars, fill swimming pools, etc, until the flow of water has normalised.
“This will take a reasonable time, assuming that there are no setbacks,” the City said.
The following areas were affected by the water supply interruption:
Arcadia
Trevenna
Sunnyside
Freedom Park
Part of Muckleneuk, north of the railway line
Part of Pretoria Central/CBD, from Railway to Minaar Streets.
The City said it “would like to express its gratitude to the customers for their cooperation during the unplanned service interruption”.
