Johannesburg – DSTv is returning to Malawi and services will be restored by Friday.
Announcing the development on Tuesday, Daud Suleman, Director General Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority, said: “The Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority (MACRA) would like to inform the public of the latest developments regarding the matter involving the MultiChoice Malawi (MCM) DSTv tariff Dispute”.
Last month, on 9 August 2023, DStv said it was withdrawing from Malawi “with immediate effect” after a court, in that country, ruled that the Sub-Saharan African direct broadcast satellite service could not raise prices.

However, on Tuesday Suleman said: “On 4th September 2023, the parties met in Lilongwe and reached an agreement and understanding which will see the resolution of the matter and resumption of the DSTv services in Malawi by Friday, (8 September 2023)”.
“MACRA assures the public that this matter will be resolved in the manner that balances the interest of either party and within the boundaries of the applicable law.”
