Johannesburg – The Star Foundation (TSF) has taken the lead in championing a transformative initiative in collaboration with The Tiger Brands Foundation (TBF).
This visionary effort aims to create a substantial and enduring impact in Hazyview, Ehlanzeni district by providing nutritious breakfast meals to at-risk learners in vulnerable communities.
With The Star Foundation adopting TBFs breakfast programme model, this collaboration is a testament to their commitment to fostering a brighter future for learners.
Over the course of 5 years, the plan aims to drive positive change by providing more than 1.5 million warm, nutritious in-school breakfasts to 8 schools, benefiting more than 7 500 vulnerable learners each school day.
“Our dedication extends beyond breakfast we are nurturing the potential of each vulnerable learner.
The collaboration between The Star Foundation and The Tiger Brands Foundation showcases our commitment to catalysing change in the lives of those in greatest need,” affirms Tasoulla Hadjigeorgiou, CEO of TSF.
Fuelling Education through Nutrition
“At the core of our approach is an innovative in-school breakfast model. Recognising the pivotal role of nutrition in education, the initiative aims to offer students a nourishing breakfast every morning, ensuring they start their day with the energy and focus needed for success,” explains Eugene Absolom, Director of TBF.
Having begun in-school feeding in 1994, we are proud as the DBE to see the expansion and growth of this critical programme which benefits more than 9,2 million learners across the country, the inclusion of breakfast will be a critical pillar in building on the positive strides made by the Department, added Basic Education Deputy Minister Dr Reginah Mhaule
Empowering Communities, One Meal at a Time
The joint effort between TSF and TBF seeks to dismantle barriers to learning, enhance focus, and foster holistic growth among learners by addressing the crucial issue of healthy nutrition in impoverished communities.
“Empowerment arises from unity and action. This initiative, led by The Star Foundation exemplifies that positive change is attainable when we join forces for a common cause,” said Hadjigeorgiou.
“When organisations adopt The Foundation’s model, the impact is amplified, leading to lasting returns on investment as lives are transformed.”
