Belfast – An elderly man was found dead and his wife barely alive after a vicious attack during a home invasion in Belfast, Mpumalanga.
The dead man has been identified as 81-year-old Izak Johannes Berrange.
His bloodied body was found by his grandson, slumped in a chair, on Thursday.
The visiting grandson recalled how his grandmother, who is also 81, was lying on the floor groaning in pain.
“Police and medical practitioners were summoned to the scene whereby Mrs. Berrange was taken to hospital where she is fighting for her life whilst her husband was declared dead on the scene,” said Mpumalanga police spokesperson, Brigadier Selvy Mohlala.
He said that a Nissan Sentra and a rifle belonging to the elderly couple were stolen during the home invasion. The car was later discovered abandoned.
Brigadier Mohlala said that charges of murder and house robbery were opened for further investigation.
No arrests have been made yet.
