Mahikeng (Mafikeng) – One person has lost their life, and 13 others were injured in two separate vehicle collisions in the North West on Friday afternoon.

At around 15:45, the driver of a vehicle with five passengers lost control and crashed at Riviera Park Bridge on R49, which links Mahikeng and Zeerust.

One passenger was declared deceased. Four others were taken to the provincial hospital.

In another collision along the R503 – that links Mafikeng and Lichtenburg – a bus that had stopped at the side of the road was hit from behind by a passing vehicle.

Another vehicle that was following behind also crashed.

At least nine persons were injured. The injured were taken to hospital.

North West Community Safety and Transport Management MEC Sello Lehari sent his condolences to the family of the deceased and wished the injured a speedy recovery.

The MEC also commended local traffic officers for responding with speed to both accidents.
