Durban – KwaZulu-Natal Premier Nomusa Dube-Ncube has conveyed her best wishes to the Zulu Royal Family following the hospitalisation of two senior Princes, Umntwana Vanana and Umntwana Simphiwe, who were involved in a car crash in Gauteng.

The princes belong to the KwaMinyamanzi Zulu Royal House and were on their way back home to KwaZulu-Natal on Thursday when they met with the accident.

The Premier on Friday said she received reports that while both princes were taken to hospital, fortunately, they are not on the critical care list and are receiving appropriate medical care and attention.

“We wish to convey our heartfelt prayers for Prince Simphiwe and Prince Vanana to have a swift and complete recovery after the accident,” said Premier Dube-Ncube.

“May they gain back their strength so they can soon be back on their feet, healthy, and be with their families.

“The Zulu Royal Household and the Monarchy are key institutions in the protection of the customary law and traditional leadership.”

UMntwana Vanana was recently appointed as Commander of the King’s Regiment or Umkhuzi wamaButho.

This role is critical to the Zulu Nation to galvanise AmaButho who are an essential part of the Zulu Royal Family and to provide standby support to the reigning monarch.

The appointment was announced by His Majesty King Misuzulu during Umkhosi weLembe which was held in KwaDukuza on 23 September 2023 to commemorate the heroic role played by His Majesty King Shaka in forging a strong Zulu nation.

The two royals were in a car crash after attending high court proceedings in Pretoria, where Prince Simakade’s application to overturn President Cyril Ramaphosa’s certification of his half-brother as the Zulu king, was being heard.

“The Zulu Royal Household must know that they are not alone in this moment of anxiety, and we take this opportunity to express our solidarity with them during this time,” said Premier Dube-Ncube.

“We trust that our prayers and the assured support of the entire people of KwaZulu-Natal will certainly bring healing, especially for Abantwana and hope to their families.”
