Pretoria – The High Court in Pretoria on Monday set aside the decision by President Cyril Ramaphosa to recognise King Misuzulu KaZwelithini as Isilo of the Zulu Nation.

The battle for the Zulu throne has been raging since the death of King Goodwill Zwelithini on 12 March 2021.

The contentious matter of succession to the Zulu throne was brought to court by Prince Simakade, who has asked the high court to declare unlawful the decision by President Ramaphosa to recognise King Misuzulu as the king of amaZulu.

On Monday, Judge N Davis agreed with Prince Simkade, in his judgment that said: “It is declared that the recognition by the first respondent (President Ramaphosa) of the second respondent (King MisuZulu) as Isilo of the Zulu Nation as contained in Government Gazette no 46057 of 17 March 2022 (the recognition decision) was unlawful and invalid and the recognition decision is hereby set aside.”
